The 4th grade recently hosted a “wax museum” to showcase students’ research and biography writing skills. Each student chose a famous person to research and created a “Facebook” page for that person. During the wax museum students came to life as their famous person and described their accomplishments. Parents and guests were invited to attend the Wax Museum’s grand opening.
Because many WJCC schools are polling places and high voter turnout is expected for the Presidential Primary, we will open all WJCC Public Schools on a 2-hour delay Tuesday, March 1, 2016. This delay applies to school-based students and staff. Central Office and Operations staff will report on time. There will be no Bright Beginnings program on March 1. For more information, please refer to the WJCC website.

Physical education teacher Debbie Bruce thought it was time to spruce up the Matoaka gymnasium and principal Andy Jacobs wanted to transform the gym into a more inviting space. With this vision in mind they teamed up with Peter Pritchard, art teacher at Jamestown High School. Mr. Pritchard recruited students from the JHS Art Honors Society to create a mural of athletic cardinals. It is still a work in progress but should be completed within the next few
weeks.

WJCC School Counselors recognized Destiney Harris for her achievements as an elementary school counselor. The award announcement notes, “Mrs. Harris has been working incredibly hard to align her program with the ASCA National Model and advocate for her role as the school counselor. Whether she is taking meticulous notes (with images) for her colleagues who had to miss a training session, proactively seeking out community partnerships to support her school community, or secretly coming in on her vacation day to participate in an advisory committee meeting, Destiney is constantly going above and beyond to strengthen the school counseling program in her school and our division! Congratulations, Destiney!” Please see our School Counseling page for more information about Mrs. Harris, Mr. Hill, and the school counseling program.
